This is what the tea that was dumped into the Boston Harbor would have looked like. In the 1700s, tea was compressed into planks; a plank this size could last a person roughly a year. They would be bought in sections, and small slivers would be shaved off into the kettle every time somebody wanted to make a cup of tea.

what the **** that’s so neat

So what you’re telling me is that they were Frisbeeing tea off the ships.

And THAT’S why it was such a big deal; they literally destroyed a couple decades worth of tea with each crate they tossed.

They dumped forty-six tons of the stuff into Boston Harbor; that’s worth $1.7 million USD adjusted for inflation.

People don’t protest like they used to smdh

#this tea

this is also fucking neat but someone censored my fucking swearing so i have to fucking put it back in this thread like who the fuck does that kind of shit and can i throw their fucking tea in the ocean for it

technology related sensory memories from my childhood

  • sliding the metal cover on floppy disks
  • the slight resistance of inserting cassette and video tapes
  • ripping off the strips of holed paper off of dot matrix printer paper
  • rolling the wheel on a disposable camera to take another photo

The heaviness and rubber texture of the roller ball in a computer mouse, and the little ring of lint

Unkinking the curly cord of a telephone while you talked

The -peww sound and slowly fading image of a crt monitor turning off, and then running your finger through the static on the dusty glass

The crunch of opening or closing a plastic Disney vhs cover

The sound effects in kidpix

Extending and collapsing metal antennas and using them as magic wands

…God, it is so weird these things aren’t around any more. Cause it’s true, the sensations are so distinct. It’s bizarre to think about missing these tiny relics.

Sometimes worldbuilding is “this is how the dread armies are affecting agricultural output in this region, and the changing influence of the different gods as farmers see their crops collapse, and the erosion caused by fewer crops is turning the river silty and hard to navigate, causing difficulties in trade that would have alleviated the effects of the famine"

And sometimes worldbuilding is “the guards here are mostly lightning wizards because imagine how fucking sick it would be to have a bunch of guards shooting lighting down from the battlements. Badass.”

why are there so many posts about asexuals being immune to sirens. people. sirens don’t lure you in with sex (necessarily). they sing about whatever it is that you want most. they could sing about mothman or cinnamon toast crunch and guess what then your asexual pirate is fucking dead

this is the only kind of ace discourse i ever want to see on my dash. the only kind. ever again. good job

Do you think the sirens would be grateful that they finally get some variety?

“Oh my god we can finally just sing about pasta thank the fucking gods.”

I’m not asexual but I’m fairly certain sirens would do a far better job luring me into the depths with a song about pasta rather than sex…

I mean

“WHAT THE FUCK STAY AWAY FROM THE ROCKS.”

“FUCKER THEY SAID THEY HAVE FETTUCCINE CARBONARA AND HOT GARLIC BREAD OVER THERE HANG ON BITCH.”

This is true; Odysseus heard them promising him knowledge of the future.  So the next time you see artwork like this:

Remember those sultry naked chicks are saying “We’ll tell you the winning lotto numbers.”

This might currently be the most unifying and heartwarming post on this website. This crosses a multitude of societal differences and invokes a mass sense of camaraderie….and, really, I think it was the pasta that did it.
